Welcome To the Leadership Blog
Welcome to the Leadership Blog on Today.com .
It is kind of a daunting task to write the first post of a new blog. I want it to be a great start; to set the tone for what’s to come. I do want to make a good first impression so you will come back to learn more. The problem is, I find that if I spend too much time trying to polish it, it starts to sound more impersonal, and more like one of the many textbooks I’ve had to read over the years.
So instead I’ll just write from the heart, and talk about the journey I would like to take us on as we learn about, and work through leadership issues.
My writing comes from a heartfelt belief that leaders are created, not born. Leaders are a product of their environment. They rise out of adversity, or because they found themselves in a position where a leader was needed, and they answered the call. It’s not a gift from the gods or some genetic disposition. Every one of us has leadership potential within us. We just have to figure out what it is, and work at developing the necessary skills.
I plan on drawing on examples from my own experiences, as well as looking at what is going on in the world of politics and business. There are plenty of real life examples that we can look at to see what works, what doesn’t and why it did or didn’t work. Just look at the past couple of U.S. Presidents. They gave us two completely different types of leadership. Each one had their successes and failures, and we can learn a lot about leadership from them.
Some of the topics I plan on digging into are:
· The Difference Between Leaders and Managers
· Different Leadership Types
· Leadership Traits
· Applying Leadership in the Workplace
Each of these topics hold a lot of different smaller trails that we can explore together, to learn more about leadership, and how we can become better, more effective leaders.
